Alex Gaul joined the TMJ4 news team in January 2025 as the Ozaukee County reporter. He comes to the Milwaukee area from St. Louis, where he reported for KMOV for two years.
While in St. Louis, Alex worked as a morning reporter, traveling the region to cover breaking news, public meetings and community events. He was first on the scene when two local police officers were shot in a rural farming town. He reported live from an airport runway, witnessed totality during 2024's solar eclipse, and was on the road for a record-breaking snowstorm.
Alex spent his first two years after college in central Illinois. He uncovered fraud allegations at a local COVID-19 testing lab, broke the news of a rural jailbreak, and reported live at a massive grain bin explosion near downtown Peoria.
Alex is a proud graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. In Arizona, he was a photographer for KPNX, a reporter with KAET, and a play-by-play announcer for Pac-12 Network Plus.
Alex knew he wanted to be a news reporter at the age of five. He grew up in the Chicago suburbs with a passion for journalism and the drive to tell stories to others. He has been reporting on local events since he was a freshman in high school and dreams of doing the same worldwide.
Although he grew up in Illinois, Alex is a proud cheesehead and Packers fan. He grew up going to Wisconsin every weekend and visiting his family in Green Bay. Nowadays, Alex loves a Brandy Old Fashioned Sour and is a connoisseur of squeaky cheese curds and summer sausage. He is also a foodie on a mission to find the area's best supper club. Please send him your best recommendations.
Alex loves sports from across the world, including everything from baseball to soccer to cricket. Regrettably, his Wisconsin connections could not stop him from becoming a Chicago Cubs fan. He also supports Borussia Dortmund of the German Bundesliga, the DePaul Blue Demons, and even the New Zealand Blackcaps.
Alex comes from a close-knit family. He has one college-age brother, Hunter, and parents Linda and Jerry. He is thankful to his family and friends for encouraging him to work hard and never give up on a good story.
