Two Milwaukee-area Boys & Girls Clubs locations have closed their doors for deep cleaning over the weekend after the discovery of COVID-19 cases.
The closures come as COVID-19 cases increase in the State of Wisconsin. On Saturday, there were 926 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus confirmed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
“That always has been one of my concerns when enrolling my kids into the summer program,” said Ricky Grandberry, a parent.
Grandberry said he’s cautious when it comes to sending his kids off to community centers during the pandemic. Normally, it’s a decision he makes with ease. This year is different.
“I think it’s something we should take more seriously and most of the centers are opening up too soon,” Grandberry said.
The Daniels-Mardak Club on N. 35th Street and the club inside of Audubon school on Milwaukee’s South Side are the two clubs that closed.
Health officials and Milwaukee Public Schools superintendent Dr. Keith Posley were notified, according to a representative with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee.
Both clubs are set to re-open on Monday.
