MILWAUKEE — Business owners eagerly await Teutonia Ave's construction to finish.

TODAY’S TMJ4’S cameras were rolling as pavement crews placed concrete along sidewalks and streets along Teutonia Avenue.

The long-awaited ending to the 7-month long project took its toll on area businesses like Style’s Superior Barbershop, but owner Deveron Moore said it didn’t take them out.

“There’s been no walk-up-business. No get off the business. It’s all just based off our clientele,” Moore said.

"Moore says between the six barbers that cut hair here at Styles Superior, roughly 60 would-be, walk-in clients were lost on a weekly basis. Customers who would normally wander in.

He estimated they cut about 200 people’s hair per week, so that loss accounts for about 30% of their total business.

“Over seven months, to lose 30% of our business consistently, it's going to hurt,” said Moore.

Longtime customers like Bryant Lever stuck around, despite the construction.

“It got real difficult trying to park over there,” Lever said.

Earlier this fall, TODAY’S TMJ4 profiled another business along the street, Coffee Makes You Black. The shop was jeopardy of closing due to construction, but, like the barbershop, made it through.

According to the City of Milwaukee, two-way traffic is scheduled to start in early December, but could begin as soon as next week.
