MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Repertory Theater is reopening this April with in-person performances of Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song with Alexis J Roston beginning April 27 and running through May 23.

The Rep says Milwaukee health officials approved their safety plan for in-person performances. That includes increased cleaning procedures, paperless tickets and upgrades to the HVAC system.

Facemasks will be required for customers and staff at all times, the Rep says. When reopened, the theater will initially operate at 25 percent.

These will be the first in-person performances at the Rep in over a year, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Theaters have been especially hit hard, as safety restrictions have kept audiences outside of the often compact, contained spaces in theaters.

"These in-person concert performances of Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song will be a wonderful and meaningful way of allowing us to start gathering again in a socially responsible manner, as we begin to turn the corner of the COVID-19 pandemic, and put behind us huge challenges of the last year that we have all endured," said the Rep's Artistic Director Mark Clements in a statement Thursday.

Tickets for Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song go on sale March 15, which can be purchased at www.MilwaukeeRep.com or by calling their ticket office at 414-224-9490.
