WEST ALLIS — Thursday would have been the opening day of the Wisconsin State Fair, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, fair officials found a way to provide locals with a State Fair staple - and they didn't even have to leave their cars.
The curbside cream puff drive-thru brought out a long line of fair food lovers.
Tom Mihal picked up 120 cream puffs to give away to clients and friends. He said it was a way to spread a little joy in the midst of a pandemic.
"Every year I’ve distributed cream puffs to people ...this year I have a card that is going to say 'enjoy a taste of normalcy,'" said Tom.
This is part of the third week of the Fair Food Drive-Thru. Open Thursday through Sunday for four straight weeks, State Fair food vendors will be stationed throughout Fair Park.
You can get your hands on a cream puff as early as 7 a.m. up until 8 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday. On Sunday, you can pick up some tasty treats from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Pick up is at Gate 5 which is located on 84th Street. Fair officials suggest you order online or by phone (414) 266-7111 since there will be a limited number of walk-up cream puffs available.
