The cruise ship carrying a Wisconsin woman, her parents and thousands of others off the coast of California will dock on Monday in Oakland.

The ship, Grand Princess, has been forced to stay out at sea for nearly a week because of cases of coronavirus on board.

But after a 15-day cruise and extra time off shore, more than 3,500 passengers won't be able to go home for weeks.

The captain of the ship told passengers over the intercom Sunday afternoon that it will take two to three days to get everyone off the ship. After, the captain said that everyone on board will be taken to a military base in California, Texas or Georgia to be quarantined for 14 days. Officials plan to test more passengers upon their arrival.

Debbi Loftus and her parents have not been able to leave their rooms aboard the ship since Thursday afternoon. Now she doesn't know to where her parents will be taken next.

"We were hoping we would get credit for time served," Loftus said.

Since Thursday, Loftus has been getting food delivered to her door by staff careful to stay at least six feet away. She said she feels like she's "in solitary."

"Room service knocks on the door, and the tray is on the floor, so I open the door and slide the tray in," Loftus said. "After I'm done eating, I open the door and slide the tray back out."

21 people aboard the ship, 19 of which are crew, have tested positive for coronavirus.

Fortunately, Loftus and her parents are healthy, and they just want to get home to Wisconsin.

"We're doing OK," Loftus said. "We are healthy, no symptoms at all. We're kind of getting tired of being in our room and would really like to go home."
