MILWAUKEE — Surveillance video shows the moments before a 3-year-old boy was hit by a car on Milwaukee's south side Saturday and the frantic scene that followed.

It happened around 7:20 p.m. Saturday near South 13th Street and West Arthur Avenue.

The video from a local business showed the boy alone and near a parked car on the west side of South 13th Street. He appears to debate crossing the street, peeking around the parked car as cars drive by.

The toddler was seen running as a car tried to swerve, but it was too late.

The driver and cars behind them stopped. Family and neighbors stopped to help.

Milwaukee Police said a good Samaritan who saw the accident brought the boy to a hospital in critical condition. The driver who hit the toddler stayed at the scene and was released after an investigation.

People in the neighborhood said traffic there is a constant issue.

MPD said at last check the boy was stable and improving. They also said at this time it did not look like the driver or parents were facing charges.
