MILWAUKEE — Community members are grieving after a 6-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run crash at 22nd and Center, Thursday evening. A 10-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl are still in critical condition.
Melissa Jones is a mother of six and she can't imagine the other mother's pain.
"It’s been too many killings adult, kids. When I was growing up, people used to protect us women and us kids. Now stuff is getting really out of hand to where they just don’t care anymore," said an emotional Jones.
Jaqueline Ratzel stopped by a memorial site where the crash happened to bring balloons and write words of condolences. She demands to know when will the reckless driving stop.
"It could have been one of your kids so slow down and stop and think about that when you go outside," said Ratzel.
Thomas Foster is a Deacon at a church right across from where the hit-and-run happened. He said he sees reckless drivers flying down Center Street daily.
"They don’t think about other people’s lives, just always seem like they got somewhere to go," said Deacon Foster.
His heart goes out to the families impacted and hopes the community can find a solution together.
"Leaders have to come together and come up with a solution, pray together and understand that this has got to stop," said Deacon Foster.
Milwaukee Police have persons of interest in custody connected to the hit-and-run.
