The Milwaukee Public Market had its biggest year yet in 2018, with a little help from "The Hop."

Public Market officials said Tuesday that total vendor sales increased to $18,179,554 in 2018 - up 10 percent from the year before.

They also saw more customers come through the door than ever at 1,794,554.

Executive Director Paul Schwartz said, "I’m enormously proud and grateful to our vendors, loyal customer-base and the hundreds of workers who are employed throughout the market that make the experience what it is today.”

The announcement came on the same day that Milwaukee city officials announced that streetcar average daily ridership was also up in December. 2,453 riders a day hopped on to "The Hop."

That number is up from November and the projections the city did before the streetcar opened in November.

Schwartz said at least some of their extra visitors came off the streetcar.

"We've been able to tell the sheer number of people getting off at the stop at one point has exceeded our expectations" said Schwartz.

Door Count numbers show an increased amount of people crossing through the doors at the corners of the building near the streetcar stops.
