MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee's "The Hop" streetcar was controversial initially, but it appears now that many people are beginning to enjoy its services.

According to our partners at the Milwaukee Business Journal, daily ridership of The Hop has increased by an average of 156 more trips per day to 2,453 total in its second month.

The Hop had a total of 76,044 rides for the month, per the city of Milwaukee.

The 2.1-mile system was expected to have an annual daily average of about 1,800 riders, an expectation that has been far exceeded.

Currently, the streetcar runs from the Milwaukee Intermodal Station, through the central business district and north through the lower east side residential neighborhood along East Ogden Avenue.

The first extension of the system will begin service in late 2020, offering rides to the downtown lakefront along E. Michigan and E. Clybourn streets.
