Milwaukee police say the man shot and killed near the lakefront on Sunday was a suspect in another shots fired investigation from the same weekend.

Terry Williams, 19, died Tuesday after being taken off life support. On Sunday he was shot in the head by Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Truax near Bradford Beach. The sheriff’s office said Sunday's shooting happened after Williams refused to stop for a traffic violation.

The day before the lakefront shooting, Milwaukee police said Williams shot at another man near 57th Street and Silver Spring Drive around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the victim in that shooting was parked at a business when Williams and another 27-year-old suspect exchanged words. Williams and the suspect waved a rifle to the victim in a threatening manner.

The victim drove away from the suspects, but they followed him in the same SUV police determined was involved in the lakefront shooting Sunday night.

The victim heard gunshots being fired in his direction from the suspects and returned fire with his own gun.

Police said the victim stated Williams fired additional shots at him from the rifle hitting his vehicle before running away.

Police arrested the 27-year-old-suspect Tuesday, who was out on bail for a misdemeanor case. The suspect hasn't been charged, and police will present the case to the district attorney's office.

The sheriff’s office said Truax was hired in August 2016 and is now on administrative leave. A woman was also shot in the lakefront incident and is expected to survive.
