SHEBOYGAN -- A local mental health expert has been charged with sexual assault after pressuring one of his patients into intercourse.

Andrew David Schmaling of Two Rivers, Wis. was charged Tuesday with second-degree sexual assault.

According to the criminal complaint, Schmaling sent text messages and made comments to a patient while at a mental health facility. The victim described the relationship as "a friendship that became inappropriate."

One day when the victim was in-need of a ride to work, she asked staff members at the facility and Schmaling agreed to help.

Once in the vehicle, Schmaling ignored the victim's directions and took her to the end of South Pier Dr. where he pressured her into having sex with him.

Schmaling threatened to have the victim's child taken away for good and have her kicked out of the facility if she did not comply. He also added that no one would believe her because she was a "junkie."
