NEW BERLIN -- The School District of New Berlin has fired a teacher who has been accused of having sexual contact with a student, according to the district.

The unnamed teacher was previously put on unpaid administrative leave when the district first heard about those allegations earlier this month. The female teacher has been accused of having sex with a male student off campus.

Police in New Berlin are conducting a separate criminal investigation. The district says it is cooperating fully with police, but no charges have been filed yet.

"The District takes seriously any and all allegations of inappropriate conduct and immediately investigates matters that potentially compromise our students' welfare or safety," Superintendent Joe Garza said in a statement.

This is the second female teacher accused of sexual activity with a student in as many months. Former Menomonee Falls High School teacher April Novak pleaded not guilty to sex assault charges shortly after the new year.
