New Berlin teacher on unpaid leave after allegations of sexual contact with student

NEW BERLIN -- Officers in New Berlin are investigating allegations of sexual contact between a teacher and student, police said Friday night.

The 28-year-old teacher has been placed on unpaid leave by the New Berlin School District while the investigation is underway. The sexual activity between the female teacher and the male high school student is reported to have occurred off-campus.

Police say the criminal investigation is in its preliminary stages, and no charges have been filed yet.

In response, district Superintendent Joe Garza released a statement:

"We take our students' safety and welfare seriously, and we appreciate our families' and community's patience as we continue to work with the police department through the investigation process."

The news comes just weeks after a former Menomonee Falls High School teacher pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault.

In that case, April Novak is accused of having sex with a male student inside her classroom.
