Nearly a week of record breaking temperatures have been a rare treat for Wisconsinites battling the usual ‘February blues’.
As the temps climbed to 70 degrees on Wednesday, Bradford Beach could have easily been mistaken for southern California. Hundreds came to walk, run, lay out, play basketball and even swim. Chad Tracy and his friends were a few of the brave to take a frigid dip in Lake Michigan.
“Everyone’s like, ‘what are you doing here?’ I’m like, going in the water,” Tracy explained.
Over at the UW-Milwaukee campus, plenty of students took the opportunity to wear shorts and shades.
“This weather, it’s sensational,” said freshman Nathaniel Fuiten. “It brings a smile to my face.”
At Lake Park, walkers were out to catch more than rays with phones in hand.
“There’s 80 new Pokemon they just added so now we’re out collecting them,” said Pokemon Go player Trisha Branson. “Somebody yelled out one of the new Pokemon and you just saw this flood of people going to the left and a flood of people going to the right.“
At Lincoln Park Golf Course, conditions were perfect, but the swings were rusty. The course was packed from tee to green. Terry Bauer said she had to wait 30 minutes to hit her first shot.
“It’s unbelievable,” she said.
Some who still had to work through the day full of sunshine, like Joshua Laterman, found a nice patio to be able to clock in and enjoy the rare treat of what was supposed to be a winter day.
“I’m a native New Yorker, so we just yearn for better weather all the time and we’re soaking it up today,” said Laterman.
