Skimmers are becoming a bigger threat, and the Greenfield Police Department is urging consumers to look before you swipe to avoid becoming a victim.

Skimmers can take a number of forms, but are generally aimed at taking data from consumers’ credit cards and ATM cards unbeknownst to the user.

GPD said in a Facebook post that the Chicagoland area is seeing a “HUGE influx of new skimmers,” and advise residents to be alert.

Police said if you suspect an ATM in Greenfield has a skimmer on it, to call the department at (414) 761-5301.
