MILWAUKEE — Marquette University has decided to rescind a student's admission and athletic scholarship due to a social media post about George Floyd's police custody death, and subsequent protests around the country.

A high school class of 2020 student was supposed to head to Marquette come fall on an athletic scholarship. That scholarship has since been revoked after the student made a post on Snapchat about Floyd's death.

In the post, the student, who was going to take part in women's lacrosse, said "some ppl think it’s ok to f****** kneel during the national anthem so it’s ok to kneel on someone’s head. come at me. y’all brainwashed. kind disgusting lowkey."

Marquette students and others began sharing a screenshot of the student's post, demanding that Marquette reconsider her acceptance.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Marquette replied to several tweets saying that the student's scholarship had been revoked as well as her acceptance.

In the tweet, Marquette said, "We are called to build a nurturing, inclusive community where all people feel safe, supported, welcomed and celebrated."

The Marquette Athletics Twitter page also addressed the situation, tweeting the same thing as the university's Twitter account.

Marquette University also sent out a statement regarding the issue, saying, "Following an internal review involving the Division of Student Affairs, Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, and Intercollegiate Athletics, and in alignment with our Guiding Values, Marquette University has made the decision to rescind the incoming student’s offer of admission and athletics scholarship, effective immediately."

According to their statement, the student used racially offensive language in other posts as well.
