ST. FRANICS — At least ten local police and fire departments are getting a new tool to help save homes and lives.

The company, Fire TKO, makes the product. It's a box that anyone can throw into a room on fire, and it lets out an aerosol that inhibits the flames.

People from local fire departments came to the St. Francis Fire Department to see how it works. Each of the departments is getting a free tool thanks to the FBI Milwaukee Citizen’s Academy Alumni Association.

The owner of the company, Rick Cohn, likens it to a defibrillator. Cohn has been a firefighter for 30 years, and he says this tool could make a difference.

"A lot of times we’d get on scene of a fire and there was nothing we can do," Cohn said. "With this tool now we are allowing the battalion chief, a police officer, a homeowner, whoever, to get on scene and start suppressing the fire."

Cohn says several departments across the state have it.
