MILWAUKEE — A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched for 24-year-old Andre Nicholson, who was shot to death outside a Third Ward bar last weekend.

The organizer of the fundraiser, Sarah McBride, wrote that Nicholson is the type of person "the world needs more of."

"He had a larger than life personality and was great at making people laugh. He was a kind soul, a sincere man, and could always be seen with a smile on his face, one that radiated. He made a lasting impact on everyone he met," McBride writes.

The money raised will be used for celebration of life costs, judicial fees and additional financial support for his family, according to the fundraiser.

The fatal shooting of Nicholson is still under investigation. A chief with the Milwaukee Fire Department told TMJ4 News on Tuesday that a 23-year-old suspect is an area firefighter. TMJ4 News is not naming the suspect as he has not been criminally charged.

Milwaukee police have yet to release any details they may have uncovered in their investigation. However, the organizer of the fundraiser, McBride, writes that the shooting was a "racially motivated hate crime." MPD has not said if it was or not.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the fundraiser had raised almost $23,000 of its $50,000 goal.
