LAKE GENEVA, Wis — Mother Nature wasn’t up for a white Christmas in southeastern Wisconsin this year, but that didn’t stop several families in Lake Geneva from experiencing snow right at home.
The Schuessler family had just about accepted that a white Christmas wasn’t in the cards this year. Their grass is still a shade of green without flakes in the forecast, but on Christmas Eve morning, a crew of strangers showed up unannounced in their front yard.
"On Christmas when there’s no snow, we gotta come out and bring a little joy to everybody especially families that really are deserving," said Dieter Sturm.
For the past six Christmases, Sturm has surprised five families with a foamy winter wonderland just in time for Santa. His snow-making company comes in handy for more than TV commercials and Hollywood movies this time of year.
"They have different types of special needs and just a real rough time this time of year and they need some help, some joy and some happiness and some laughter," Sturm said.
Heidi Schuessler’s friend nominated her family to have their home stand out among the rest.
"I had no idea what was even going on, I just saw cars and people were getting excited and neighbors and friends start showing up in our yard," Schuessler said.
"Very surprised, but it’s very nice to have a white Christmas," added Brian Schuessler.
