RACINE -- Drivers, you have been dealing with those I-94 construction projects for more than eight years.

Construction started in 2011. We took our burning question to Department of Transportation Spokesman Mike Pyritz: When will it all be done?!

"June of 2020! Everything from College Avenue down to 122 will be completely 100% done," said Pyritz.

So, in about six months.

"You can hold me to it," said Pyritz. "We'll stand out here June of next year and it will look completely different."

The journey to complete the 34-mile stretch from the Illinois border to the Mitchell and Zoo Interchanges has been long.

The development portion started in 2006. Actual dirt-moving construction started about five years later. This has been a mammoth project to handle.

"The North/South project is about $1.6 billion price tag for the reconstruction," said Pyritz.
