WHITEFISH BAY — The Village of Whitefish Bay is warning residents not to leave cars running with the keys in it after a vehicle was stolen Friday morning.
Around 7:15 a.m. and 7:40 a.m., the Whitefish Bay Police Department received reports of a vehicle theft and attempted vehicle theft in the area.
The vehicle that was stolen was unlocked and running in the driveway to warm up. The keys were inside the vehicle.
Now, the village is reminding residents to lock their cars and not leave them running unattended.
"Please do not leave vehicles unattended with the keys inside. Lock your homes and vehicles. These small steps can dramatically reduce the chances you will be a victim of crime. It only takes a few seconds for a criminal to get into your vehicle and drive away. Please report any suspicious activity to the Whitefish Bay Police Department by calling 911 right away. When criminals are successful, they will continue to return to the area." - Village of Whitefish Bay
