MILWAUKEE — Snow woes — it’s what a lot of people in southeast Wisconsin are experiencing after five recent snow events, leaving a total of more than 40 inches of snow on the ground in Milwaukee alone.

“I’m sick of winter, especially on the east side. Over here, parking is a nightmare. Every time there’s a snow emergency, it’s a pain to find a spot,” Daniel Mericle said.

That pain grows worse storm after storm. With snow building up on both sides of the street, the roads become narrower — making it difficult for Mericle and his neighbors to find parking and for plows to get through properly.

“The most frustrating is the giant snowbanks that get built up on the streets so you lose whole parking spaces for the whole winter when they have snow and it gets icy and hard, and then they can’t plow it anymore,” Mericle said.

But not everyone has the Wednesday winter blues. Jon Mckewon, who has lived on the city’s east side for four years, said his pro tip to surviving a Milwaukee winter is avoid parking on the streets if you can. It will alleviate some stress and potentially prevent a huge headache.

“It’s kind of nice, not to drive in, but I’m walking so it works for me, (and) I avoid it on purpose because I know it’s going to be bad,” Mckewon said.
