MADISON — UW System President and former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson is destroying things in the effort to "smash COVID."

A series of videos posted to the system's social feeds show Thompson, armed with bowling balls, a baseball bat and a sledgehammer, smash and destroy a number of objects, including pumpkins, plates and a purple vase.

Thompson's ability to demolish the objects apparently symbolizes the required effort by residents to halt the spread of the deadly virus.

The videos are captioned as such: "Mask up, get tested, quarantine if needed. SMASH COVID." Other videos call out that it is "Time to put the hammer down!" and "time to strike now!"

The promotions urge members of the UW community to register for a COVID-19 test at doineedacovid19test.com.
