WAUKESHA — UW System President and former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson is yet again "smashing COVID" - this time with comedian and host of The Manitowoc Minute, Charlie Berens.

The effort, besides being a good laugh, is to raise awareness among students and residents to get tested for the coronavirus and follow safety guidelines.

Thompson and Berens filmed the latest “Smash COVID” video in Waukesha. The former governor has been featured in a number of videos with him smashing various foods with hammers and other objects.

“We all want to smash COVID, and I’m happy to join President Thompson in bringing attention to these free tests,” Berens said in a statement. “Keep ‘er Movin’ Wisconsin – through the COVID testing line.”

“With our partners at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, we began surge testing in early November when the virus was raging across Wisconsin,” Thompson said. “Since then, the number of cases in our state has been dropping, and surge testing has been a critical factor because we could quickly identify potential cases.”

If you want a free test, you can head to one of Wisconsin's surge-testing sites.
