CHICO, California — Packers QB Aaron Rodgers surprised the owners of a burger joint in his hometown of Chico, California, to let them know that they are receiving a donation from The Barstool Fund to help them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rodgers pledged $500,000 to the Barstool Fund earlier this month. The fund, created by Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy, strives to help small businesses that are being hit hard by the pandemic.
In a video call posted to social media by Barstool, Rodgers and Portnoy chatted with the owners of Burger Hut, Rick and Erin Kusie.
"Chico in the house!" Rodgers said with a big smile on his face as he greeted the owners. The Packers QB recounted that the burger joint is one of his favorite places to eat in his hometown, and was honored to contribute to the donation to the business.
"What Dave and his people have been doing is unbelievable, I'm so excited to be able to be on this call," Rodgers told the owners.
The Barstool Fund has so far raised over $27 million for 153 small businesses. Over 194,000 people have donated to the fund.
