MILWAUKEE — Bastille Days is underway on Milwaukee’s east side. Opening days festivities wrapped up Thursday with the Storm the Bastille 5k run.

TODAY’S TMJ4 sent Rebecca Klopf there to run it with the other 5,000 runners. But first, she had to check out the festival.

It started with a good stretch with the can-can dancers. Then it was time to get some pre-race food.

She grabbed a baguette at Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro.

“Don’t eat the whole thing, you don’t want to over-carb,” said Scott Williams of Lake Park Bistro.

She took his advice and decided to diversify her carbs.

“Classic pulled pork barbecue with some slaw. They even asked me if I wanted chips,” said Jeff Bohn from Milwaukee. “I am hitting all the food groups right now.”

“Nice hot beignets here with some powdered sugar on them,” said James Bechu-Quarles, who was working the beignet tent.

You round all of that out with a quick stop at the crepe tent with both the strawberry and chocolate crepe, plus a chocolate mousse crepe.

Then, the run kicked off at 9 p.m. The winner crossed the finish line with a time of 15:10. Rebecca Klopf was sometime after 30 minutes with a stomach ache. But she finished.
