OAK CREEK -- After a mild start to winter the weekend storm served as snowy reminder that it is mid-January in Wisconsin.

"We’re Wisconsinites. We can handle this it’s almost like a badge of honor to be out," said Erica Chang who was passing through Oak Creek with friends.

Chang and her two friends said the first big snow could not stop their girls trip to Chicago.

"We’ve been driving slow just to be safe, but since it's been out on the highway the roads have been pretty clear," said Natalie Croft who was tasked with driving.

Crew were out clearing sidewalks and streets in Oak Creek Saturday following nearly 24 hours of snowfall. Oak Creek Police dispatch said they did not have any major accidents to report.

"I’ve been in Milwaukee for a long time, but I wasn’t missing the snow for sure," said Frycka Palacios, Manager at Oak Creek's Bel Air Cantina.

Weather seemed to be the reason why business was off to slower start at the restaurant. Palacios believed people would start trickling in hungry after clearing off their cars and driveways.

"Winter took a little longer but oh well we get on with our lives go to work," said Palacios.

One mom from St. Francis stuck with her weekend trip to the grocery store and said the snow played in her favor.

"Really fast. Not a lot of people in there," said Angela Buchanan after she finished a trip to Meijer.
