Cold front brings showers, severe thunderstorms

and last updated 2019-08-05 21:40:27-04

The heat has returned along with the humidity as temperatures are in the 80s and dew points in the upper 60s to make it feel muggy out. A cold front approaches later today to bring a line of showers and thunderstorms to the area mainly between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. with the potential for severe wind gusts northwest of Milwaukee in the early evening.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect northwest of our area, but storms will lose some of their intensity as the sun sets and as they reach our slightly cooler air. Many locations will pick up close to a half an inch in the northwest and closer to a quarter of an inch in the southeast. Lows will be mild, in the upper 60s overnight.

Tuesday will be partly cloudy with lower temperatures and lower dew points to make it feel more comfortable with a high of 82 degree in Milwaukee. There is a chance for a few isolated showers to develop, but most of the day will be dry. Wednesday starts out that way, but it will be warmer and more humid with the mercury rising to 85 degrees before another cold front swings through in the second half of the day, bringing showers and a few storms, though this isn't looking as impressive as today's rain chances.

Thursday and Friday look very nice with mostly sunny skies, lower humidity and highs in the 70s. Saturday is similar but for a chance of a few spotty showers that will clear out before Sunday.
