A couple who immigrated from Syria in 2017 has made Milwaukee their home, and the pair just celebrated the grand opening of their new restaurant, Damascus Gate, on the southside.

Damascus Gate is a labor of love for Abdul Abadeh and his wife Riham.

There was quite the spread at Friday’s opening. The new addition to the Mitchell Street neighborhood offered some of the couple’s favorite comfort foods from Syria.

The couple along with their three children immigrated to Milwaukee two years ago. Before that, they spent three years in a Jordanian refugee camp.

The restaurant has photos of Damascus all over the walls. Abdul and his family hope everyone will stop in and experience the tastes of Syria, the land that they love.
