No game in week three is a must-win. Still, there are major issues of importance connected to a Green Bay Packers win against the Detroit Lions.
If they get it done: There will at least be a better chance of a feeling that this team, despite a subpar performance in weeks one and two, is a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
If Aaron Rodgers is "Aaron Rodgers" - the one that has won two MVP's, that is: There will be a feeling the Packers' offense will have turned a corner and returned to its long-missing explosive tendencies that they know they can turn to at any time.
If the defense stops an improved Matthew Stafford and a deep receiving corps: There will be evidence that this defense can be a top-flight unit, necessary for a Packers championship run.
If they don't do those things:
- The Packers will fall to 1-2, with two divisional losses.
- Green Bay will have lost four consecutive NFC North home games.
- It will be Aaron Rodgers' 17th game without a 100-plus passer rating - unthinkable for the quarterback who is statistically rated the greatest in the game's history
Let alone the psychological effect.
In other words, a win Sunday isn't mandatory, but in a timely way, almost necessary.
As Voice of the Packers Wayne Larrivee says in his previews, there is more-than-hopeful reason for success.
