The Green Bay Packers were awarded a fifth-round pick in the upcoming 2017 NFL draft.
Compensatory picks are based on the team’s loss in free agency from the previous season; Green Bay received the additional selection after losing cornerback Casey Hayward to the Chargers on a three-year, $15.3 million deal. Hayward led the league with seven interceptions in 2016, and was named to the Pro Bowl.
Last year, the Packers had two fourth-round compensatory picks; General Manager Ted Thompson used them on linebacker Blake Martinez and defensive end Dean Lowry. Martinez played in 13 games last season and made nine starts.
The Packers now have two fifth-round picks, giving them eight in total. The 2017 NFL Draft runs from April 27-29.
