There was plenty of attention directed at New England Patriot’s quarterback Tom Brady after being named most valuable player of Super Bowl LI, but many felt the honor should have gone to former Wisconsin Badger, James White.
White scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime to give the Patriots their fifth NFL championship title.
He finished with three scores and broke the Super Bowl record for receptions, hauling in 14 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown.
During a press conference following his fourth MVP honor, Brady said he thought White should have been chosen, according toSports Illustrated.
"He's just the best teammate," Brady told Sports Illustrated. "I am so proud of him and everything that he has accomplished. He is like my oldest son. He does everything right and you can't ever get mad at him."
White, who played for the Badgers from 2010 to 2013, was feeling the love locally as well. The official Twitter account of the Wisconsin Badgers tweeted “Super Bowl MVP? James White has our vote.”
