MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers and Christian Yelich have agreed to a long-term contract extension that will keep the former MVP in Milwaukee until at least 2028.
The Athletic initially reported the deal would likely be for seven years. Bob Nightengale of USA Today now says the deal is "official," and Yelich will receive $188.5 million.

Jon Heyman, with the MLB Network, on the other hand, reports Yelich's deal with the Brewers is worth $215 million. Yelich's current agreement would remain in place for 2020 and 2021, with salaries of $12.5 million and $14 million, respectively. Yelich would then be paid $26 million per season from 2022-2028. It comes with a mutual option for $20 million in 2029 and includes a $6.5 million buyout.

The Brewers General Manager David Stearns confirmed the deal during a press conference on Friday.
"“Since becoming a Brewer, Christian has established himself as one of the premier players in our game,” said Stearns. “Today’s agreement ensures that Christian will continue to lead our team and impact our community for the better part of the next decade.”
Yelich sat with Stearns as he made the announcement.
“I could not be happier that I am a Milwaukee Brewer for the next decade,” said Yelich. “I want to thank the Brewers organization, my teammates, and the best fans in baseball for their support. I am excited to be staying in Milwaukee and playing the game that I love for this amazing city.”
