The Benefits of Shopping Local this Christmas

Thanksgiving is next week and we all know that means that the official kick-off to the holiday season is underway. As we’re all trying to keep our distance and stay healthy, instead of shopping at the big box stores where there may be a lot of people or at an online retailer far away... think small and local this year. Our small businesses need our support more than ever and they have been very creative to make sure you’re socially distanced and many are offering curbside pickup as well.

When you shop at locally owned, small business retailers – you will do far more to help the local economy. For every $100 you spend at a locally owned small business, $68 stays in the local community and is redistributed in employee wages, local services, local supplies, charities and more. When you shop on Amazon, that money leaves Wisconsin altogether. It’s patriotic to shop small! To better understand the benefits of shopping local this holiday season we are joined by Tim Vertz of Vertz Marketing. He also shares tips on how YOUR small business can participate in the shopping madness this year.

American Express runs the Small Business Saturday campaign and they have a lot of great FREE resources to help you organize, plan and run your Small Business Saturday promotion. It’s not too late to take advantage of this FREE program – just go to shopsmall.com and you can sign up for a FREE marketing kit and download graphics, posters, cards and more. They will also give you a FREE listing to promote your business on the Shop Small website.
