Around 25% of Americans who are 65 or older consider themselves to be socially isolated according to a recent report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. Loneliness is associated with significantly higher rates of heart disease and stroke, and a 50% increased risk of dementia, according to the National Academies. Isolated seniors also struggling with a greater incidence of depression and anxiety; and suffer a mortality rate comparable to that linked to smoking, obesity, excessive alcohol consumption and physical inactivity.

Synergy HomeCare is no stranger to helping seniors live a healthy and fulfilling life. This mission did not change in the pandemic, in fact Synergy went even further to make sure everyone was healthy and happy. We spoke to Ruth Busalacchi, Owner and President of Synergy HomeCare, about the "COVID Loneliness Squad" and the music they are taking to seniors to combat loneliness.
