WAUPACA COUNTY -- A man could face up to 15 years in prison after being charged in Waupaca County with his 14th OWI offense.

Sheriff's deputies say this offense happened May 24.

In a criminal complaint, witnesses told deputies that Daniel Nordell got into a car accident in the Township of Farmington just before 7:30 p.m.

Deputies observed that Nordell's SUV hit a mailbox, speed limit sign, and a utility pole.

Witnesses told deputies that Nordell then tried getting back into his car.

According to the criminal complaint, deputies talked with Nordell and noticed his eyes appeared red and glossy, his speech was slurred, and there was a strong smell of intoxicants coming from his breath.

Nordell told deputies that he got into the accident because the brakes on his car didn't work.

He stated that he had approximately three beers within the past three hours.

In the criminal complaint, deputies said Nordell went through field sobriety tests and then submitted to a preliminary breath test that showed a 0.17% blood alcohol content.

Deputies told Nordell that he would be arrested for OWI.

The Communications Center then advised that Norell had 13 prior OWI convictions.

Nordell's most recent conviction came in 2006. Prior to that, he was arrested four times for OWI in 1994, twice more in 1995, once in 1998, three times in 1999, and twice in 2002.

If convicted of this OWI, Nordell could face up to 15 years in prison and have driving privileges revoked for several years.
