Whitefish Bay mom turns unwanted items into wearables

Posted

A Whitefish Bay mother is helping save our planet with a unique idea. She's using her creativity to turn unwanted items into pieces you can wear.

Christine Winney is creating accessories from 'upcycled' men's ties. There's chokers, wrist cuffs, flower pins and necktie scarves.

"I've always liked to recycle, it is a throwaway society," Winney said. "My dad actually taught me to sew he used to make all my clothes when I was young, and I really didn't use it till after I had my children."

She runs an online business out of her home called Ogsplosh Accessories.

"I feel quite happy with myself. I've taken one item and turned it into something completely different, but the time I'm finished I'm really quite happy."
