They have hearts for the homeless. The Street Angels are an all volunteer group that began in 2015.

Eva Welch and Shelly Sarasin founded the group. Since 2015, Street Angels has delivered food and packages to the destitute three times a week. Welch and Sarasin did it in addition to working their full time jobs.

"It's a genuine friendship and they look forward to seeing us as much as we look forward to seeing them," said Welch.

And now Street Angels, Inc. are operating out of new headquarters located at 445 West. Oklahoma Ave.

Co-Founder Eva Welch runs down what has changed in the last few months.

"We have obtained our own bus, we have obtained our first facility and we have become full time employees of street angels...congratulations."

Welch and Sarasin are now co-executive directors of Street Angels Inc. thanks to a grant from Bader Philanthropies.

"It's super exciting," said Welch. "It's surreal. I think I still need to pinch myself every morning."

"I gave my notice because I'm excited to be able to be a street angel employee," said Sarasin. "We prided ourselves in being a 100% volunteer operation, but we still are. We work all day here, and then go out at night and volunteer."

The Street Angels say the need for help for the homeless goes up in the summer months.

"Right now were seeing almost 100 people every night," said Welch.

The ladies believe winning the Positively Milwaukee Awards played a pivotal role in the expansion of their program.

"I truly believe if it wasn't for the recognition on the Positively Milwaukee Awards and being nominated, we would not be here today in this amazing building and be able to serve more people on our two buses..which was our dream," said Sarasin.

As for goals for the future,

"We both have the same goal. To put ourselves out of a job," said Sarasin.
