The family of a missing Arizona girl says what appeared to be a new lead in her caseis just a cruel joke.
A dollar bill was discovered in Neenah, Wisconsin that appeared to include a message claiming Mikelle Biggs was alive. Biggs went missing at the age of 11 in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa in 1999.
The message on the bill, however, misspelled Biggs’ name as Mikel Biggs. The family said that was something Mikelle would ever do.
“Definitely angry. It's insulting. I'm trying hard to keep her name out there. And I'm trying really hard to put on a brave face,” said Kimber Biggs, Mikelle’s sister.
Police are doing a handwriting analysis on the note.
Biggs disappeared in January of 1999 waiting outside for an ice cream truck. Her bicycle was found on the street with her coins spread nearby.
