GUANGZHOU CITY, CHINA -- A  44-pound dog fell from the roof of a two-story building and struck a woman on the head in southern China -- leaving her with a serious neck injury.

The incident was caught on camera. Footage from state media shows two women minding their own business as they walked toward a local clinic.

All the sudden, one of them is suddenly hit by the large dog with no warning. Local witnesses said they heard a loud sound and saw an animal falling to the ground.

The woman struck passed out immediately. Some neighbors quickly called an ambulance and the woman was sent to the hospital. The dog ran away from the scene.

Workers say the second floor of the building is used as a factory for electric units. They say have never kept any dog there, and believe it may have entered the factory via another passage.

Witnesses speculate the dog jumped off the roof of the building after being unable to find its way out.

The woman is still recovering in the hospital, with doctors saying that the second, third and fourth bones of her cervical vertebrae have suffered a comminuted fracture.

Police are still investigating the incident.
