MILWAUKEE -- A trailblazer for women and civil rights leader in Milwaukee is speaking out on Hillary Clinton's historic nomination.
92-year-old Vel Phillips helped accomplish many firsts in our state, including the first African-American female judge, Milwaukee alderperson, and Wisconsin's Secretary of State.
When we asked her about Thursday night's historic moment, she says she thought it should have happened sooner.
Phillips has advice for any woman who wants to serve in public office.
"Not just to do it to get elected, but to do it because it's the right thing," said Phillips.
Phillips also has advice for young women: Get the highest education possible. She explains that is what has afforded her the legacy she's given to all of us.
