Major League Baseball has suspended operations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The league's announcement Thursday came following a conference call with team owners. The league will also delay the beginning of the regular season at least two weeks. The season was scheduled to open on March 26.

The league was amid Spring Training, which takes place in Arizona and Florida. A game between the Cardinals and Marlins in Florida began as scheduled. As of about 3:15 p.m. ET, that game was still being played.

The MLB follows in the footsteps of the NBA, NHL, MLS and several college athletic conferences, all of whom have suspended operations or canceled events amidst the coroanvirus pandemic.
