BEIJING (AP) — The coronavirus has tightened its grip on day-to-day life around the world. On Saturday, ports in several countries turned back ships — with and without infected passengers.

The Vatican announced it would livestream the pope's weekly blessing on Sunday to prevent people from gathering at St. Peter's Square. After the cancellation of Carnival, hotel occupancy rates in Venice, Italy, are down to 1%-2%.

Iran declared a “sacred jihad” against the virus. Members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard were spraying down streets and hospitals with disinfectants. The bug has infected more than 100,000 people and is increasingly shifting its travel patterns.
