A 35-year-old Milwaukee woman is accused of trying to smuggle marijuana along with chicken and waffles into Fox Lake Correctional Center.

According to a criminal complaint, Sophia Guarnero was arrested Saturday with a package of marijuana along with a meal of chicken and waffles in Ziploc bags.

A Dodge County Sheriff deputy contacted the prison about a possible delivery of contraband by a visitor. The deputy said Guarnero was on the phone with an inmate, saying she was going to pick up “the chicken and waffles,” and bring them to the prison visit.

Guarnero was questioned and she pulled a Ziploc bag out of the front of her shirt saying the chicken and waffles were inside. She pulled another bag from her pants pocket, saying it was the syrup.

After officers continued to question Guarnero before she eventually gave them gave them a cellophane-wrapped package filled with marijuana she tried to smuggle in as well.

There was about 63.5 grams of marijuana in the cellophane package. The food in the Ziploc bags did appear to be chicken and waffles, as Guarnero claimed.

Guarnero has been charged with one count of delivering illegal articles to an inmate. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of three and a half years in jail.
