With cold temperatures on the way Friday night it's time to bring your plants and flowers from outside and into shelter.
Waukesha is one of the inland counties expected to get its first frost and gardeners have been rushing and calling into stores to get ready.
This frost is coming earlier than expected. Michael Koeppl with Piala's Nursery & Garden Shop says use burlap, bed sheets or even plastic.
"Cover your plants, yup; if you got flowers out there, they're going to get it tonight," Koeppl said.
"You're going to want to do it later this afternoon, obviously with the wind don't do it too early, you might have it blow away, you might have to anchor it down."
Sept. 20 is the earliest a frost advisory has ever been issued for this area. Oct.17 is the average date for a first frost, the latest it's ever happened? Nov. 24.
Karl Pierce says he won't have time to cover his backyard Friday night.
"We'll just pull them when they die and plant them again next year like most gardeners do,” he said.
Just a reminder, if they aren't covered, experts say not much can be done to save plants after a frost.
