MILWAUKEE — With warmer temperatures on the way, this weekend is a great time to get your car washed.

At VCA Autobody located on National Avenue, crews have been busy working on fixing cars damaged from winter storms. Max Shepsheleich with VCA Auto said it's not just crashes causing issues for drivers, road salt is also destructive.

This winter, the Milwaukee Department of Public Works used approximately 31,000 tons of salt out on Milwaukee roadways. Shepsheleich said that's why it's important to get your car washed when temperatures are above freezing and after a storm.

"It will eat away your paint, causing rust," he said. "The longer you wait to get the rust fixed, it will keep eating away."

During warmer weather Octopus Car Wash is at its busiest. Manager Curtis Louis said last weekend they saw several hundred cars.

"The line was to the light down there, and we did about 500 cars that day. It was a real good week," said Louis.

Louis said the simple decision to wash your car could save you money in the long run.

If the salt stays on your vehicle, it can eat away at your wallet too; if rust corrodes through your frame, it can cost you several thousand to repair it.

"Do everything to get that salt off; otherwise, you're going to be paying a hefty price," said Shepsheleich.
