RACINE -- The former dry district of West Racine may be getting its first bar in at least 98 years, the local paper The Journal Times says.

West Racine abolished dry districts early last year.

John Dunk, owner of the now-closed pub John's Dock, has been recommended by the City of Racine to transfer his liquor license over to his new business in West Racine.

Dunk is the first bar owner to eye a spot in the former dry district, according to the Times.

If the liquor license transfer is approved, Dunk told the Times he aims to renovate the building and have it open to patrons from both early mornings through late nights.
