CINCINNATI — A West Allis native had a memorable 2019 debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.

Alex McRae was called up to the major leagues for the second time in his career because of his arm, but he recorded the first hit of his MLB career Monday night.

McRae was called up by the Pirates from Triple-A Indianapolis. He appeared in two games with Pittsburgh in 2018.

McRae pitched three innings in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Reds. Cincinnati won 8-1.

He allowed three hits and two earned runs in three innings of relief. McRae struck out three and did not walk anyone.
