JOHNSON CREEK -- A man has died from his injuries after a wrong-way crash in Jefferson County earlier this month.

The wreck happened at approximately 11:40 p.m. on July 13 on I-94 WB at Mile Marker 270.

Wisconsin State Patrol said the driver, who was in an SUV, was going the wrong way on the interstate when he entered a construction zone and hit a dump truck head-on.

When troopers arrived, both vehicles were on fire.

First responders had to extricate the driver of the SUV from his vehicle. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter and died nine days later.

Officials said alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.
